The Schulenburg Sticker displays recent obituaries on their website. The Fayette County Record displays recent issues, including obituaries, on their website only through subscriptions. The KVLG/KBUK radio web site does feature brief death notices that include the time and place of upcoming funerals. Also, the Koenig-Strickland Funeral Home web site includes the time and place of funerals they handle, as well as biographical information about the deceased.

Locating Old Newspapers

The Portal to Texas History

Thanks to grants from the Tocker Foundation, the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives and the Schulenburg Public Library have contributed images of many early issues of Fayette County newspapers to the Portal to Texas History, a website sponsored by the University of North Texas that allows free access to the images.

The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives has contributed isues of The La Grange Journal, The Fayette County Record, Fayette County Record (an earlier newspaper with a similar name), The Flatonia Argus, and The La Grange Deutsche Zeitung (available through a Library of Congress grant). These newspapers can be found directly at https://texashistory.unt.edu/explore/partners/FYTPL. More issues will be available in the coming months.

The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History

The Research and Collections Division of the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History is located in Sid Richardson Hall, Unit 2, Room 2.109, on the main campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Among its vast holdings are hard copies and microfilms of old Fayette County Newspapers. See a PDF document that lists newspapers from La Grange, Flatonia, and Schulenburg included in the collection. Hours are Monday - Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-2, with a few exceptions.

Located in neighboring Colorado County, the archives of the Nesbitt Memorial Library in Columbus contain microfilm of early Fayette County newspapers among its newspaper holdings.

The Colorado County Citizen
